In the wake of Taiwan’s status in the international circumstance during the pandemic, the rock and hip hop music performances highlighted the rise of racism, the conflict between the younger generation and the system, and when threatened, its desire for survival. It was an escape, an continuation, and also a revolution.

When Covid-19 pandemic was declared in 2020, the whole world came to a standstill. Yet in this worst of times, we managed to host the greatest music festival due to Taiwan’s success in containing the virus. The festival attracted 15,000 people into the mountainous region of Wufeng for an unforgettable experience that has never been done before in Taiwan.

Our goal was to bring out a clear and practical graphic symbol that will be recognised both by the future man and by all music fans of the event. We were inspired by "fennec fox" from《The Little Prince》– its hills, Ataabu Valley, the river, the old houses, Wind, Sand and Stars and of course, our rich colour and imagination. All of this together in one very simple symbol.

DOPEST INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL was our starting point in the strategy for the RNF 2020.

The ROVING NATION Festival (commonly called RNF) is an annual music and arts festival held at the Taichung Taiwan, in the Ataabu Valley Taichung Wufeng.The event features musical artists from many genres of music, including rock, pop, indie, hip hop and electronic dance music, as well as art installations and sculptures. Across the grounds, two stages continuously host live music.

RNF was not entirely a commercial event. There were both an imminent threat from the pandemic and high risks involved in hosting the event. But people’s desire for nature and the arts, whether it was ugliness, beauty, joy or frustration, were all fulfilled in this three-day event. RNF not only cannot be replicated, it can only be understood in that moment in time. It is a Taiwan phenomenon in the midst of the pandemic.
